Safe Community Coalition

Safe Community Coalition

Lima-Allen County Safe Community Coalition is a Safe Communities grantee of the Ohio Department of Public Safety. The coalition is made up of safety advocates in the community including first-responders, health care workers, driving instructors, and many others who want to see Allen County a safer place. The mission is to reduce the number of injuries and fatalities on Allen County roadways with safety messaging and education related to proper seatbelt usage, not driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, not driving distracted, and more. The grant and this coalition is managed by staff at Lima-Allen County Regional Planning Commission.

Safe Community Coalition: The coalition meets quarterly for regular informational meetings, hosts partner’s breakfasts twice each year, hosts an annual safety awards luncheon, and has multiple kickoff events that include sober driving and seatbelt advocacy.

Quarterly Safe Community Coalition meetings for 2025 will be held on Friday, Jan. 10 at 9 a.m., Friday, April 11 at 9 a.m., Friday, July 11 at 9 a.m., and Friday, Oct. 10 at 9 a.m. Any safety advocate in Allen County is welcome to attend. All other coalition events are by invitation. To receive more details and/or be added to the coalition and its events, please email Megan Kinnear: mkinnear@lacrpc.com.

Safety Review Team: A small team of law enforcement, fire department, transportation professionals, county coroner staff, and medical personnel also meet quarterly to review and evaluate fatal crashes and unsafe roadways/intersections in Allen County. Safety Review Team meetings are by invitation only and are closed to the general public at this time due to the sensitivity of the discussions.
